The macaron is a French product. You’ve probably heard the terms “french macarons”. In France, as many as 7 cities take credit for first creating the macaron. Who to believe? Wherever it was invented, the macaron looks French. Yes, I know… It’s just a simple, round cookie. But for me and many people, its more special than an ordinary cookie. When I think of macarons, I remember the moment when my hubby offers me a macaron box or I remember being in Paris with my girls having a cup of coffee, enjoying macarons at Ladurée. Ladurée is a French pastry shop that is the Parisian benchmark for macarons. Their macarons are unique and are known for their exceptional flavors. At Ladurée, one finds quality macarons made with the simple ingredients: sugar, egg whites, and almond but the chic side makes the difference. Paris is magic and its dessert are too. The macaron is distinguished from other desserts. It’s an original. Like myself and many parisians, being different is natural. You should continuously strive to be original. I may be crazy, but I believe we’re free to define ourselves by who we are through our values, habits, beliefs, fashion and lifestyle…
But what is chic about a macaron?
Its flavors! There are a countless number from sweet to salty to spicy. So there’s something for all tastes. Those who like flavor also like color. You can choose a color according to your mood. Living a colorful life, in pink, brown, yellow, green, fushia, purple, cream, white, black… For flavors, I‘ll let you discover… Anyway, you’re spoiled with choices. But above all what makes the macaron so chic: these are the boxes in which they are served. At Ladurée, macarons are fashion items. Each macaron, its own fashion season. There are even the limited edition flavors of macaron. And the boxes are themed. Depending on Parisian events or upcoming holidays, you will find the Valentine’s Day box, the Paris Fashion week box, the Prestige box, the High Fashion box and many more… In short, the sound of a macaron is a piece of art that we can crunch. In Toronto, I found out one of the greatest patisseries specializing in macarons: Bobbette and Belle. I discovered the pastry shop Bobette and Belle during my wedding preparations. Instead of a traditional pièce montée, we decided to choose a macaron tower called the French macaron tower. Bobette and Belle designed us a French macaron tower in the wedding theme colors (coconut, strawberry, pistachio). And some macaron had our initials A&C engraved in gold. It was wonderful! Once and for all, it was definitively one of my favorite items at our wedding. Here are the 2 locations of Bobbette and Belle in Toronto:
- 1121 Queen St. East Toronto, ON M4M 1K9 (Monday to Friday 9am to 6:30pm Saturday & Sunday 9am to 6pm)
- 3347 Yonge St. Toronto, ON M4N 2M4 (Monday to Friday 8:30am to 6:30pm Saturday & Sunday 8:30am to 6pm)
There is another pastry shop to try: Delysées. Their macarons are fabulous. About the flavors, they have an extremely wide variety like Ladurée. I can assure you that you will not be disappointed. This pastry is so creative! Last year I discovered 3 fantastic flavors which are wildflower, champagne and raspberry rosemary. Currently this is my favorite french patisserie in Toronto. Here is the location of Delysées :
- 780 King St West, Toronto, Ontario, M5V1N6 ( Monday to Saturday 8am to 8pm & Sunday 9am to 7pm)
- Shop online and home delivery available.
And which macaron are you? 🙂 😀 🙁 😐 😛
