I can’t keep that for me, it will be so selfish. 6 days ago, it was the of my life’s birthday I planned something special for someone special. I didn’t need to create the big surprise but I just wanted to find details that will offer him an impressing birthday . In my family, I renowned to be ‘Mrs Dessert’, so I obviously focused my surprise on the birthday cake. First of all, I think birthday cake is the thing that must be unique. And then, eating it is amazing! After my crazy addiction for French macarons, my 2nd fave parisian pastry is ‘Éclair’. Éclair is an old french traditional pastry that you will find anywhere in french bakeries. I kept in mind memories of my childhood when my mom bought me an éclair after many children’s carousel rounds in Paris. A few years ago, eclair has been modernized.
When I was in Paris in 2013, my friend Béa showed me eclair in a new angle. Eclair became the fashionable dessert in France. Now, there are many opened eclairs shops in Paris. French bakers enjoy giving different flavours (from sweet to salty), colours and design.
So, my challenge was to find the best french patisserie in Toronto, which would be able to help me customize a birthday cake with éclairs. It wasn’t hard to find. I immediately thought about Delysées. It’s the only French bakery able to make éclair like we had in Paris. Everything you’ll find at Delysées is made with French products. I have already talked about them on my first post ‘One parisian escapade around a macaron’. Thanks to Delysées, I can continue to keep my parisian chic side in Toronto. I sympathized with Fred Naggar who is the owner of Delysées. Parisian-born, Fred has been living in Toronto for 25 years. With his wife, they unveiled a fashion bakery in Toronto in 2013. Fred studied bakery in Paris and in Toronto, but he also worked in fashion industry for 10 years. And that’s why I love his concept: a combination of Authentic French bakery and Fashion For those who love to distinguish themselves, his pastries are chic, trendy and refined. Fred launched modern éclairs in 2014! He has a permanent collection of éclairs. The colours are gorgeous and the flavours are breathtaking! I was flattered to discover the London Fog éclair which reminded me of my London Fog luggage set
Well, well, well back to the birthday cake plan! My first idea was a birthday cake only with éclairs. But, like French macarons, éclairs are better for customization. I really hesitated between the milk chocolate rocher cake and the raspberry cheesecake. Finally, I chose the raspberry cheesecake because my hubby is not fan of chocolate, it’s summertime and why not a white cake. At Delysées, they suggested adding berries on the top. I approved it. Of course, I kept my first idea: Eclairs! They made smaller éclairs size to fit the cake. I chose 3 of their fashionable éclairs to customize the cake. The éclair flavours were coconut, lemon meringue and gianda gold (gianduja). I also ordered a golden square plate written “HBD …” And I put the cake together. Wow, it was wonderful and Delysées met my expectations more than I could have imagined. Everything was chic from the customizing, to the cake boxes. Fred has a good concept that will be very promising.
